26 January 2024

This has been another full week in the Prep School. You can read about our sporting activities and successes which have included live basketball, two netball fixtures, yoga and a Swimming Gala in the separate article.  Our Sports Captains, Maggie, Martha and Ava have certainly been busy.

Girls have also started auditioning during their Music lessons for the Prep Young Musician of the Year event. The final will take place on the 29 February and we are looking forward to hearing our young performers.

A focus on Year 5 this week has highlighted their practical work in a number of subjects. In Mathematics they have been looking at length, thinking about the best equipment to use when measuring things and different ways that they can write the length including 105cm is 1.05m.  This has helped to embed conversion of units.  In Science they have been studying digestion and have been using their collage techniques to represent the digestive system. This has also helped to consolidate their understanding.

We have enjoyed welcoming girls and parents throughout the week to our various Taster Days to find out more about all of the opportunities available in the Prep School. Our Year 2 girls also enjoyed their ‘taste’ of using the Art Studio which they will use for their Art lessons in next year.

We have ended the week with our Celebration Assembly with much to celebrate.  We shared the sports successes with everyone and the news about receiving the International School Award Foundation Certificate: Introducing Internationalism. There were also Music awards for the examinations taken just before the holiday.

We congratulate Sophie Donelly, Grade 1 Clarinet, Adrienne Farquharson, Initial Cello, Grace Low, Grade 1 Singing, Agniya Gooder, Riyana Kang, Ava Bullock and Aditi Mohanraj for Grade 1 Piano and Jessie Liu for Grade 2 Piano. Well done to everyone.

Next week we are looking forward to welcoming our Year 5 parents to join us for the class assemblies and to meeting with Senior School staff and students on Friday to celebrate our School birthday.  This is always a favourite event in the year. Year 6 also have the opportunity to experience a workshop in Senior School which we know they will enjoy.

Girls have been encouraged to take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch at the weekend spending an hour immersed in nature. There will be a link on Seesaw if girls would like further information. We hope everyone enjoys some time to relax.
