This has been a week of special assemblies.
We began the week welcoming parents of girls in 6G to join us for their last class assembly in Prep. The girls had chosen to raise the awareness of penguins and the difficulties they face due to climate change. They took on the roles of research scientists who visited the main continents of the world where penguins live. Using green screen technology the girls shared research about many different species of penguin.
Tuesday saw the girls involved in a presentation once again. This time it was the turn of the Prep Eco Reps who launched the Big Garden Birdwatch due to take place this coming weekend. We do hope that as many girls as possible, with their families, will spend an hour counting the birds.
Chinese New Year was the theme of the assembly for Reception and Year 1 and 2 girls on Wednesday. They heard about the different traditions that families share during the 15 day celebration and were able to try some dragon dancing. We know how important this time is to many of the families in our school community.
Our Year 6 girls have enjoyed the opportunity this week to take part in a second round of workshops to experience life in Senior School. This week Classics, Drama and German featured as the subjects they could try. Mrs Crimp, Deputy Head Curriculum from Senior School, welcomed the girls. She is getting to know the girls well having visited us in Prep to lead an assembly about the school’s trip to Iceland, taking some Geography lessons on plate tectonics and this week joining 6G for their assembly.
Thursday saw the Swim squad take part in a gala against Balsall Common School. Our galas give the opportunity for girls to experience competition and also to work together with older girls. The match was a competitive one with some excellent swimming skills on show from both schools. The final result was a win for Balsall Common on which we congratulate them.
We finished the week with our school Birthday Assembly. All girls and staff in school from Nursery to Sixth Form gathered in the Octagon where we decided what awards we would present to the school. Girls from Years 1, 6, 7 and 13 took part in presenting the assembly and there was much singing from Westbourne, Prep and Senior Choir. We finished by singing Happy Birthday to our school. Jashvita also wrote a poem for the occasion which summed up her feelings.
Next week we look forward to welcoming Year 5 parents to school for the class assemblies and there are trips for Year 4 and Year 2 to enrich their learning.
