This week we have seen the performances of the highly anticipated Year Six production of ‘Olivia’ and it was simply joyous! I have always known that EHS Prep School is one that does not have a history of shouting about our achievements, but I could not have imagined how a group of staff and students could prepare for the performance with so little fuss and produce such a remarkable show. However, I was simply blown away by the incredible performances that I witnessed from our Year Six girls this week. There was a frisson of excitement as the girls took to the stage in our wonderful performance space, The Octagon. Careful casting meant that it truly was an ensemble performance, with every single member of Year Six playing an integral part.
Reception girls have also taken to the stage this week, with their wonderful assembly entitled ‘What makes a good friend?’ I warned the audience of family and friends that the girls might be nervous...I was completely wrong! The girls spoke with clarity and confidence and loved the opportunity to share the importance of friendship through songs, dance and words. I was not the only adult in the room with a tear in my eye. Time is so precious and these formative years are key in a child’s education. Girls who are with us for the longest make the most progress...and I can see why. Our firm foundations give the girls the confidence to succeed and to make wonderful friends along the way!
As a Head, I have witnessed countless Year Six productions and class assemblies over the years. They are always a highlight of the year for me as they are a chance for pupils to step outside their comfort zone and they are often an indication of potential future success for many. Nevertheless, EHS girls are different. EHS girls are diligent, supportive and brave. EHS girls take immense pride in who they are and in their school. Many of our current Year Six pupils will move on from EHS at the end of the Summer to take up places at Grammar School or to accept scholarships in independent girls’ schools in Birmingham. But, the EHS values will remain with them throughout their time at Senior school and on into adulthood and of this I am immensely proud.
I hope to see many of you at our Open Day on Saturday from 9.30am-12 noon. It is a chance for staff and pupils to showcase what makes us special. We have a number of exciting hands-on activities planned including Spheros, Balance Bikes, Music and Art, if you have not already booked, please do come along. You are most welcome to join us with family and friends to experience our wonderful school and to enjoy a famous EHS biscuit or two!
