Octagon Abuzz with Activity
04 November 2022
On the last day of half term, Mr Ball and Ms Jones-Owen gathered Year 7 pupils into the Octagon to take part in the annual EHS Spelling Bee.
Students had been encouraged to take part in a treasure hunt at lunchtime to collect as many hidden plastic eggs as they could find. We are still amazed that they managed to
find the one that was placed in the swimming hat on the PE notice board! They then exchanged these for a bag of ‘pick n mix’.
After this excitement, it was time for the main event. In their houses, the girls were asked a series of quick fire spellings on Science, Music and Languages, Art and
Technology, Classics and Humanities. They were also asked to define words such as ‘sublimation’, ‘nominative’ and ‘carbohydrate’.
The quiz ended in an electric tie-break between St George and St Francis house where students were asked to spell and define the word Arctic. All tackled with enthusiasm but
ultimately there could only be one winner. Well done to St Francis house!
