We have begun this half term with a warm welcome to Mrs Hennous, our language teacher, and to Mrs Roberts, our Year 2 Teaching Assistant. We have also welcomed a number of new girls to the Prep School, from Nursery to Year 6. We are sure that they will all settle very quickly and enjoy being members of our EHS community.
In our first Celebration Assembly of the half term we presented Well Done certificates to Key Stage 1 girls and several individual awards. These included a skating award for Florence and a well done to Siyuan and Siyoa who climbed The Monument in London. We also presented the official Prep Parliament badges to our members of School Council. Having worked with their classmates to select this year’s charities to support they are busy gathering views on what new playground equipment to purchase. We hope they continue to enjoy their roles representing the views of the Prep School pupils.
In Westbourne, girls returned to a redecorated Hall with new windows. The paintwork has given a fresh back drop for the reorganised Library with its bright furniture. We are sure this area will continue to inspire our confident readers. Parents will be able to join us in the Hall for our Book fair which will be open in the mornings from Monday to Thursday next week. This will be a good opportunity to do a little early Christmas shopping whilst adding additional resources to our book selection.
Wednesday brought the School Photography Company to EHS. The photographers were full of praise for the girls and their exemplary behaviour. They visit many schools, but they noted particularly the confidence of the girls as they sat with excellent posture and ready smiles. They were polite and patient throughout and very supportive of each other in checking appearances. We look forward to receiving the final images which parents will be able to purchase.
6, who have now finished their examinations for entry into Senior School, have been enjoying studying the work of the ceramicist, Clarice Cliff. They have studied her designs and the history of ceramics before creating their own Clarice Cliff pieces, taking into account the artist’s vibrant use of colours and trying to imitate her style whilst adding their own flair. They demonstrated some very fine brush skills when painting their teapots.
We have a busy term ahead to look forward to with rehearsals for our Year 2 and Westbourne productions well underway. Next week Year 1 will be visiting Tamworth Castle and we look forward to meeting prospective parents at our Open House morning in Westbourne on Tuesday.
EHSPA have also been busy planning their seasonal activities. The first of these is the Fireworks Party on Saturday 4 November. If you have not bought tickets in advance you can pay at the gate on the evening and we hope to see many families there. Other events include the Tree Lighting, a new event on November 29, and the Christmas Fair with fun for all on Saturday 2 December. The annual EHSPA Ball, with a masquerade theme will take place on March 10. Further details of all of these events will be available soon.
We look forward parents joining us during the half term ahead.
