Girls were keen to return to school this week to meet up with friends and to look forward to the term ahead full of new routines and challenges. In our first assembly, we welcomed those pupils and staff new to our EHS Prep community. We also thought about the part that everyone has to play in creating a happy and successful school.
The new team of Prep Prefects and House Captains was introduced and we look forward to working with them and all Year 6 girls who each hold a post of responsibility. Our congratulations to newly appointed Head Girl, Hannah Padley and Deputy Head Girl, Kiri Bayall.
Extra-curricular clubs will begin in the weeks ahead. One of these will include our gardening club for Year 6. This takes place at the Allotment which has been bursting with growth over the summer holiday. We were delighted that our plot was one of only five at the Edgbaston Guinea Gardens chosen to be presented to the judge in the Britain in Bloom competition in the category called ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood.’ The parents’ picnic taking place during their visit ensured there was a buzz of laughter and a scarecrow was created and placed in the pear tree to oversee proceedings.
We also took part in the Guinea Gardens Show which was held on August 20. We entered 15 classes and achieved 3 first, 3 second and 3 third places. Our longest runner bean was about 380 mm and achieved second place. We are also proud of Jiya Bhagat who created a charming garden in a seed tray wholly made from materials found in the allotment to take first place. We are looking forward to making further visits to the allotment to extend our curriculum studies.
There are many other activities to look forward to in the term ahead including school visits to a range of places of interest. Next week trials will take place for swim squad and for netball squad during the following week with training to begin soon afterwards. We also hope many parents will join us for the Information evenings next week with Westbourne parents invited on Wednesday and parents in Years 1 – 6 on Thursday evening.
We look forward to welcoming parents into school to join us for events featuring the children and to events organised by the EHSPA. We are sure our newest pupils from Nursery to Year 5 will settle quickly and enjoy the school journey ahead of them.
