Seasonal celebrations are now well and truly underway in the Prep School. Our first event was hosted by our Parents’ Association on Friday evening. This was the lighting of the large Christmas tree located on the terrace for the whole school to enjoy. The evening included live reindeer, snow, carol singing, hand bell ringing, Christmas stalls, seasonal fayre and, of course, a visit to Santa.  It was an event for all of our school community of girls, parents and staff to enjoy.

In our Celebration Assembly on Monday we marked the success of our younger girls in the presentation of Well Done certificates. There were individual awards presented to Florence for Gym, Vuyiswa for Independent Research, Talia, Isla and Ellie for swimming and further congratulations to Ellie for gaining Ultra Marathon Club membership. Jessie and Zoe, in Year 2, gained Headteacher’s certificates after performing so well in the Senior School Production of Miss Saigon. The success of our Year 5 and 6 mathematicians was also celebrated with Gold, Silver and Bronze awards from the Primary Maths Challenge, a national competition.

Our dancers continue to flourish too with trophies awarded this week to Lucy and Cora, Year 3 and Sophie in Reception. They are clearly following in the footsteps of their teacher Amy Dowden who scored a perfect 40 in last week’s BBC Strictly show.  We are all rooting for Amy and Karim and cannot wait for Amy to be teaching again in our after school dance club.

The winners of our competition during Switch Off Fortnight to design a light switch surround were also announced as Maggie, Kavya and Amy.  The surrounds have all now been displayed around school and serve as a good reminder to us all to save electricity.  Well done to all of the entrants.

Tuesday morning began with our Westbourne production of ‘Everyone Loves a Baby’.  After meeting together socially over refreshments our parents and guests sat back to enjoy watching the performance which included much singing.

On Tuesday evening our Swim Squad competed in a gala against Highclare School. This was an exciting competition with many very close finishes.  The final result was a first place for the A Team and a third place for the B Team.  Well done to all our swimmers who have worked hard in training this term.

Wednesday brought another excellent performance from the girls in Year 2 who performed, ‘Lights, Camel, Action’, our Christmas version of Strictly!  Again the girls demonstrated a high standard of performance and clearly enjoyed entertaining the audience.

Our week has ended with a second visit to EHS by boys from West House School and our much anticipated Guitar Assembly featuring group performances from beginners and experienced guitarists.

In our last week of term, next week, we look forward to welcoming parents to our Carol Service on Monday and the Year 4 Tudor Christmas Assembly on Wednesday morning.  The girls also have Christmas lunch, Party Day and the House Quiz to enjoy before breaking up for the end of term on Friday at 12.00.  Westbourne girl also have a week of festive fun planned.  Another busy week ahead!
