In my last News from Prep article I would like to thank staff, girls and parents for the range of memorable activities that have been organised for the end of term. It has been a most enjoyable and busy few weeks.

We were able to celebrate a great Festival of Sports Day last Thursday and were very lucky with the weather. It was impressive to have all girls from our youngest, in Nursery to our oldest in Year 6 all taking part to showcase their developing skills. We were also pleased to support the Senior School Sports Tour and contribute towards the charity they will be working with on their trip.

Our week ended with a wonderful entertainment, again featuring all of the girls. ‘Mrs Hartley’s Slowdown Hoedown’ featured each class or year group presenting a range of sketches which were all so different. We were pleased to have so many parents join us for the special occasion. In the evening Year 6 girls enjoyed their Leavers’ Party in the Octagon. They enjoyed lots of games and dancing, face decoration and a most impressive farewell cake.

Monday was Changeover Day when everyone has the opportunity to meet their next term’s teacher, classmates and new girls joining the school in September. This day is an exciting one and marks the start of reflecting on all we have achieved this year as we look ahead to the next.

Despite being a wet day, Tuesday was picnic day when there was most definitely a rosy glow in Prep.  Everyone dressed in red accessories to surprise me and the red and white lunch bags added to the occasion. It was a very relaxed way to say some informal farewells to the girls and the impromptu conga added to the fun. The Helipod, also red, on the playground was also an exciting addition.

Our final event of the academic year was our Celebration Assembly with much to celebrate especially the award of the House trophies for the term. Our congratulations to Curie who won the Sports Day and House Points Cup and to Frank House for winning the overall Swimming Cup.

We also presented the Certificates of Achievement, Courtesy Counts awards and several individual awards. Well done to Ellise and Eliza on their tremendous success in the Boldmere Water Meet winning many medals between them. Aisha gained her level 3 swimming certificate and Innayah received the last Challenge Board certificate of the term.  We also recognised the commitment of Alice Low for 100% attendance at Stagecoach and Tilly Cooke for completing her two-year Dance Track programme with the Royal Ballet School. Maggie Coaffee Moran was also presented with her Player of the Season Trophy from Harborne Little League.

Ava and Zahra thanked everyone for their contribution to charity and I am delighted to announce the final total we will be donating to West Midland Air Ambulance is £1,600. We were all definitely inspired by the visit to assembly of Dr Dias and by the arrival of the Helipod on Tuesday on the playground.

Our assembly, and term, finished in the traditional way with three cheers from our Charlotte, Emily and Jessie, our outgoing Leadership Team and one final surprise for Mrs Hartley as the staff and girls performed their own EHS Prep version of ‘Peace at Last’.

Thank you all and I wish you a restful and enjoyable summer break.

Mrs Hartley
