We were really pleased to welcome the children back from the holiday and welcomed new girls to our EHS community. In our first assemblies of the New Year we thought about setting new goals and making a fresh start in order to achieve our full potential. The girls in Years 1 and 4 did not waste any time in trying new things with two trips on the first two days back. Year 1 went to the Theatre to see The Gruffalo and Year 4 were lucky enough to learn squash skills and to see matches from the British Junior Open Squash Event.  You can read more about these trips separately.

This week began with Year 6 Netball Squad welcoming two Birmingham schools and representing EHS in fixtures as part of the U11 Birmingham Primary Schools Netball League. EHS, St. Mary’s School and Paget Primary School made the best of the dry January afternoon with two rounds of friendly and competitive matches. EHS were the victors in both of their matches. They demonstrated adaptability by playing in different positions and supported one another with enthusiasm. Mrs Sawyers was pleased to see all of the children grow with confidence as they played and demonstrate good sportsmanship through the duration of the afternoon.

Year 4 Art Competition entries have been flooding in too and we are enjoying seeing the different ways they have used their creative skills to turn recycled materials into masterpieces.

In Music lessons girls have begun auditioning for our Teatime concerts and for the Prep Young Musician of the Year competition, the finals of which will be held later this term.  Year 6 girls have also begun learning songs for their auditions for the Year 6 production.  We certainly have some enjoyable events to look forward to.

During this week’s assemblies we have been considering controlling our emotions and our reactions as we face difficult situations and also maximising potential and the value of brainteasers

In our Celebration assemblies since returning to school we have celebrated the various swimming achievements of Cora in Year 6, and Annika and Anna in Year 2.  There have been gymnastics awards for Ava E in Year 5 and kickboxing for Waris in Year 4.  Our musicians have been hard at work too with piano success in Initial Grade for Aditi, Zuli and Charlotte in Year 4 and Grade 1 for Katerina, Year 5 and Grade 1 violin success for Amelia in Year 4.

There were certificates for the winners of the first round of the Junior Language Challenge and we congratulate Sofia, Supreeta and Emily for their progress to date.  We also awarded the final certificates in the Time Travel Independent Challenge to Hitha and Anya and are really looking forward to the next topic being launched.

Dance awards were presented to Shayanna for passing her Bollywood Dreams Junior class with an A* and to Sophie D in Year 3 who gained trophies in a recent Latin and Ballroom competition.  Sophie and her partner were place first in the U8 and third in the U10 competitions which took place in Blackpool, the home of ballroom.

Next week we are looking forward to welcoming parents to our Year 5 and 6 Teatime Concert on Tuesday and to our Year 3 Storytelling Assembly on Thursday.  There is also a workshop after school on Thursday for Year girls to enjoy.
