At the end of last week girls from Year 5 enjoyed their study of the past at the Black Country Museum which you can read more about separately. Meanwhile 1B girls welcomed their parents to an assembly based on the topic of bodies which they have been learning about in Science and art.  This week Year 1 girls visited Thinktank, the local science museum to extend their studies further.

It has been an exciting week for Year 6 too who have performed a musical, ‘The Pirates of the Curry Bean’ for the school and for parents and guests.  It was clear from their confident performances that they had enjoyed the collaborative project and made some good memories of working with friends.

This week in assemblies we have looked at the art work of Van Gogh and considered the varying styles of representation of a number of different artists.  It was clear that the Van Gogh painting called Starry Night was a favourite.

On Wednesday we welcomed Anna, who visited us from Birmingham City Mission and retold the story of David and Goliath and how we need to have hope to be able to deal with difficult situations.

Thursday saw the introduction to our study of different cultures as we celebrated the rich diversity of our Prep School Community.  We discovered that we have 30 different languages spoken by girls and have relatives living in 45 different countries. Girls have been encouraged to bring in pictures of different cultural celebrations their families around the globe hold.

In our final Celebration Assembly of the term we awarded Certificates of Achievement to girls from across the Prep for academic and personal achievements.  We presented Risha and Amanda with their additional round awards from the Primary Mathematics challenge. We congratulated a number of individuals too, including Freya who has gained two medals at Pond’s Forge and a further 3 medals at the Leicester Sharks regional qualifiers. Freya is now working towards the regionals at the end of April and we are proud to hear that Freya’s times place her top swimmer in Warwickshire. There were also certificates for Challenge Board entries, swimming for Srotika, gymnastics for Talia and ABRSM certificates for singing for Imogen and Amara.

This term we have held successful Sports fixtures and are looking forward to more ahead. There have been some changes to the co-curricular programme for the summer term with the introduction of tennis and cricket coaching on offer. We are also looking forward to joining some Commonwealth Games linked sports’ events in Summer Term.

I do wish everyone a happy holiday with the hope of some of the beautiful weather ahead.
