This has been a very busy week, as usual. It began with success in Netball. Our Year 5 girls enjoyed their first competitive match against Hallfield. Congratulations to both teams who won their games; A Team 5 – 2 and B Team 5 – 0. Well done also to Cora and Amelia who were voted Players of the Match.
On Tuesday morning, we followed up the School Birthday Assembly from last Friday by meeting some of our Senior pupils. Sixth Formers, Abida, Amelia and Anna joined us for a Question and Answer session. They offered the girls an insight into life in Senior School and were full of useful advice as well as memories of their favourite lessons, trips and activities.
Topics which have featured in assemblies this week to extend the girls’ general knowledge have included Chinese New Year which featured Tiger sketches drawn by Year 6, the Winter Olympics and Paralympics and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
On Thursday we were also treated to a class assembly from 3K on the subject of food. The topic was chosen because Year 3 have been learning about food in their Science lessons and it launched an exciting History cookery challenge for pupils in Years 1 - 6. The assembly also featured a play called 'The Scrambled Egg Chef’, which had an important moral about not being afraid to try new things. The pupils worked hard to learn their lines and put on a fantastic performance. Well done 3K!
History is a popular subject with the girls and we are sure the new challenge will achieve good outcomes. History offers many opportunities for the girls to use a range of different skills in their learning too. Girls in Year 5 have enjoyed using the internet to research what it was like living in Victorian times. They produced posters on the computer featuring topics such as food, clothing and schools. Year 6 are enjoying creating posters and leaflets based on their studies of WW2.
In our Celebration Assembly on Friday there were many congratulations. We recognised the 42 girls from Years 1 – 6 who took part in the Big Garden Bird Watch. They had clearly enjoyed a variety of suggested activities in addition to actually watching birds. The photographs, artwork, research and games and quiz results were all most impressive.
We also congratulated Year 6 girls on the results from the 25th Anniversary Junior Maths Challenge which is aimed at students up to Year 8. 6 Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze awards were presented. Two of our pupils have also reached the next round of the Primary Maths Challenge which is coming soon.
We also presented our weekly Well Done certificates to girls in Years 1 and 2 and there were individual awards for Independent work including a Headteacher’s award for Davica Roles for her research. Well done to all girls for the extra challenges undertaken.
We wish everyone a restful weekend and look forward to seeing parents of girls in Years 1 and 2 at Parents’ Evening next week.
