As we welcomed everyone back to school after the break we began with a Celebration Assembly, the first of two for the week.  We awarded a number of certificates for the History and Talk to the Animals challenges and some ABRSM music certificates. There were the usual Year 1 and 2 Well Done certificates, individual awards for Eliza Meade for tennis and Headteacher’s awards for Mila and Rayya for their pencil portraits. Mrs Hobbs also introduced the new playground equipment to great excitement.

The second group of Year 5 girls visited the Senior School Art Studio for a workshop with Mrs Mullett as part of their portraiture studies. They used charcoal to create some self portraits with amazing results.

On Wednesday, the day began with the launch of World Book Day as we welcomed author Linda Mason to school.  She introduced her book Dolly Daydreams’ Garden Friends.  2S really enjoyed the assembly.  ‘We really enjoyed hearing about the animal characters that could talk. We were inspired to make her a thank you card. Linda is blind so we made it sensory using cut out flowers and buttons she can feel. On Friday we are going to write our own stories’.

We also welcomed parents to our presentation evening ahead of the forthcoming netball tour. They found out more about the weekend’s activities and coaching.  We look forward to hearing more about the trip on their return.

Thursday saw the arrival of World Book Day. This year is the 25th Anniversary of this event and everyone came to school dressed as their favourite book character. There is a separate article containing more details of our celebrations.

Our second Celebration Assembly took place on Friday. Our flute ensemble made up of girls from Years 3 – 6 played for us and re-launched our Morning Musicians programme. Miss Deacon drew the winners for her History Challenge with the girls receiving cookery books to extend their skills further.  Year 1 and 2 received their weekly Well Done awards and there were individual presentations for Amelia, in Year 3 who gained a medal for skiing at half term, a certificate for Anya, in Year 5 for being voted the swimmer of the month for February at her club and a Ballet Certificate for Dimitra in Year 2.

Next week we are looking forward to U10 netball fixtures against Hallfield and to the Final of our Prep Young Musician of the year.  This will take place in the Octagon starting at 4.00 pm.  We wish good luck to all of the girls.
