Last week ended with the finals of our Prep Young Musician of the Year competition. The standard of performance was extremely high and you can read more about the event in the separate story. We congratulate Maia, our winner, on a splendid performance of ‘The Sound of Music.’ We also thank our Music teachers and Margaret Pickford, our adjudicator for their hard work.
This week started very early on Monday morning as our Year 6 girls and staff gathered from 6.00am for their trip to France. We have enjoyed receiving the daily updates which have included weather reports. We are looking forward to hearing more about their trips to the market, snail farm and beach and their stay in the Chateau. It has been quite quiet and we are looking forward to having them all back in school.
In our celebration assembly we presented Well Done certificates to Key Stage 1 girls, a number of individual awards for skiing to Imogen and Catrin, Stage Coach to Violet, a Pony Club test to Kathrine and Musical Theatre to Neha. We also announced the winners of the Annual Inter-House Netball Competition as Frank House and presented the certificates to our Young Musician Year group winners.
It is always a pleasure to ask the girls what they are enjoying in school and to see their work displayed. This week we feature the collage masks produced by Year 6 and a picture drawn by Anna showing how much she enjoys her weekly ballet lesson.
In Maths this week Year 4 have started their new topics on measures. Mrs Crompton's class were trying to answer the age-old question of, 'How long is a piece of string?' This involved investigating various different lengths of string and selecting the most appropriate measuring equipment to do this. Miss O'Connor’s class meanwhile were busy making potions! The girls had to carefully follow a set of instructions and measure liquids accurately. The girls particularly enjoyed making the invisibility potion but were however very disappointed when they didn't disappear!
Next week is another busy one when Year 4 are visiting Harvington Hall, Year 6 begin their enrichment programme of activities and School Sports Team photographs are being taken on Friday and girls will need appropriate kit. We also look forward to welcoming Reception parents to the Prep Department for a visit on Tuesday on our ‘Prep School in Action’ day and parents of performers to the whole school concert on Thursday.
