Last week ended with the girls being encouraged to take part in the Great British Birdwatch over the weekend which a number of them did. They returned to school keen to talk about their findings.
This week began with an assembly about charity. The full meaning of the word charity was discussed and our school contributions were reviewed. Miss Robinson then launched our forthcoming plans to mark Red Nose Day which are being led by Ava and Zahra, our Charity Champions.
Monday evening brought a big well done to all the Year 5 girls who played in the netball matches against Hallfield School. Both teams had convincing wins in their friendlies. For some, it was the first time they had represented the school in netball and the buzz of excitement continued through the duration of the games. All girls channelled their energy into playing well as a team. With lots of encouragement from the side lines, they scored at least one goal or more every quarter, leading both teams to victory.
All girls in Year 5 were also involved in assemblies for their parents which were performed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. These were all based on fables and their morals which the girls had composed during their English lessons. The audience was delighted by the creativity of the stories which were acted out with suitable actions, voices and facial expressions. These assemblies were a great way to celebrate National Storytelling Week.
Year 6 girls have also enjoyed a busy and exciting week. With parts having been allocated they have begun their rehearsals for the forthcoming Year 6 production of Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies. They are all set for the hard work ahead in the remainder of the term.
Girls also had the opportunity to visit Senior School to take part in some workshops to give them a taster of what is to come when they move onto secondary school. The girls were able to experience a Physics, Food and Nutrition or English lesson and there is a second set of workshops taking place on February 27, ahead of the ‘Audience with EHS’ evening. We know the girls will be looking forward to these after the excitement heard on their return to Prep on Wednesday evening.
In another week of mixed weather Year 3’s Geography lessons have been particularly topical. They have been learning that different locations have different climates and testing their knowledge by sorting and matching statements.
Our week has ended with the School Birthday Assembly celebrated by staff and all girls from Nursery to Year 13 in the Octagon. We will report further on this special event in the school calendar next week.
Next week, the last one of this half term, we have much to look forward to with a trip for Year 2 on Monday and a meeting about the Netball Weekend to Condover Hall after school. We will also welcome parents of girls in 6G to assembly on Tuesday and Year 1 parents to our Open House mornings on Tuesday and Wednesday.
