Sports Roundup: Season Highlights So Far
14 February 2025
As we reach the half-term break, it’s a great time to look back at an exciting season of sport at EHS. From hard-fought matches to standout individual performances, our teams have given it their all. With national finals ahead and plenty more action to come, here are some of the key moments from the season so far.
Squash
The EHS Squash Team competed in the KS5 regional finals against Cheltenham, Wycliffe College and Moreton Hall, showcasing some incredible, high stakes matches. A standout moment was Siona’s thrilling 1st seed match against a highly-ranked U19 opponent. Despite a narrow loss, she fought hard, pushing the match to a third game and keeping us on the edge of our seats throughout. The team has secured their spot in the national finals this March, and we can’t wait to see them in action. Congratulations to Sri, Adela, Zara, Fernella, and Siona for their outstanding performance!
Netball
Our U15 netballers competed in the Regional School finals against tough and well-drilled opposition. Despite being a year younger the team played with maturity, winning 3 of their 6 games. This was an excellent opportunity for the team and we are hopeful they will qualify for national finals as U16s next year. The U15s are also through to the semi-finals of the Sisters n Sport National Plate competition and we wish them the best of luck.
Hockey
The U18s played their penultimate match for Team EHS, and what a thrilling game it was! Going up against KEHS is always an exciting fixture, with plenty of momentum swings and tightly contested individual battles. The first half saw both teams struggling to make the most of their chances, but the second half was full of action. Unfortunately, the team fell just short, losing 3-2, but it was an incredible game to watch. We’re all excited to see them in action for their final match after half term!
Swimming
It’s been a busy half term for our swimmers, with several galas taking place alongside packed weekend schedules for many of our county and regional athletes. One of the standout moments was the prestigious Warwick 50s last week, where we achieved the following:
U13 Medley Relay- Win
U12 Backstroke (Ava E)- Win
U13 Backstroke (Cora B)- Win
U13 Breaststroke (Livi M)- Win
U13 Butterfly (Izzy P)- Win
U13 Freestyle Relay- Win
U13 Girls overall winners
Cricket
Our U13 and U15 cricket teams have once again secured their spots in the county finals this April. The girls have been putting in a lot of hard work at morning training and it’s paying off- their fielding is becoming sharper and more consistent. A special shout-out goes to Sanskriti, who took an incredible hat-trick during one of the qualifying games!
Football
Miss Lane led an enthusiastic U14 A and B team to Repton and the girls were thrilled for the chance to face new opposition. The team displayed some fantastic moments of play throughout the game. In a nail-biting finish, Grace D scored a last-minute equaliser for the As, bringing the final score to 3-3. While the Bs didn't win, they showed great improvement, particularly in their movement and spatial awareness as the game progressed.
Finally, we would like to wish Aurelia E the best of luck for this weekend as she competes in the Senior Artistic Gymnastics Welsh Championships 2025.
