Success for EHS swimmers
08 March 2019
On Monday 4 March, our U11 and U13 swimmers travelled to Worcester for an invitational gala organised by Bromsgrove School. Our school was competing against 18 other teams from around the East and West Midlands in the freestyle and medley relays.
Our U11 team swam in the first heat for the medley relay and came a close second but went through to the final with the second fastest time, after two other slower heats. We fought hard in the final and made up considerable time in the butterfly and freestyle legs, finishing second overall to Kings St Albans, with an improved time.
We then had the freestyle race to follow. This time we swam in the second heat, against fast teams and managed to book our place in the final as the second fastest school again. The final was closely fought in all eight lanes, each school wanting a medal position. It was difficult to tell whether we had come second, third or fourth from the distance but luckily our final swimmer, Captain Olivia Dougan, dug deep and pipped the opposition to the post, coming in second to Bedford Girls School.
At the same time, the U13 swimmers were competing in relay events of their own. In the freestyle relay, the girls qualified in second place in a very competitive heat,
narrowly losing out to Bedford School. This was soon to be overturned in the final with fine swims from Jemima Jackson and Poppy Couzens who is still only an U12 swimmer. The
team were crowned as champions, the first time for team EHS. This success was followed up by a fantastic second place in the Medley relay final. Daisy Bevan and Carys Hayes
were instrumental in the team smashing their personal best times.
Congratulations to all swimmers!
