The Magic of Books

Preparatory

11 March 2022

The topic of books has continued to create excitement initiated by our celebration of World Book Day last Thursday.

The ‘Book in a Box’ enrichment activity proved to be a great success and generated 72 entries.  Creative skills were much in evidence for this project with a wide range of materials used, technology to make the entries light up and impressive construction skills.

Some of the scenes created represented the whole book whilst others showed a favourite scene. What was common however was that much imagination had been used in the planning and design.  The range of books chosen also showed that our girls are keen readers who enjoy classics and more recent literature in equal measure, although Harry Potter was a clear favourite. The displayed book boxes have also generated much discussion of the skills used and the books chosen as inspiration.

Our Year 6 librarians also launched their own competition for visitors to the library during the week. They encouraged the girls to create their own bookmarks. They had the difficult job of judging the entries and decided on 13 winners across Years 1 - 6.  We congratulate the girls on their initiative and look forward to hearing more of their ideas.

Girls have also been keen to read the books selected to mark International Women’s Day.  This interest has been shown by girls from Nursery to Year 6.  We are sure there are leaders of the future amongst our girls!
