This Week in Westbourne
04 November 2022
The girls clearly enjoyed the half term break and were really excited to return to school.
In Nursery this week the girls have focused on the colour orange as the theme for many of their activities which is particularly appropriate at this time of year when there is so much orange around them.
Whilst Kindergarten girls have been focusing on the letter sound, ‘i’ they also completed some Halloween and Bonfire Night themed activities which included exploring the texture of a pumpkin, matching numerals to sets of objects and how to keep safe with bonfires and fireworks.
Their letter sound ‘i’ work included forming the letter and study of the story, ‘The Runaway Iceberg.’ They read the story and enjoyed answering questions in addition to listening to words beginning with the chosen sound. The girls extended their knowledge of the world around them by exploring ice talking about how water freezes and why ice melts. Painting with ice paints added to the experience.
Reception girls have returned to a very busy week. They have been learning about Diwali in their Religious Education lesson. They explored various Diwali and Hindu artefacts, learnt a song about Diwali, created rangoli patterns and dressed up in traditional clothes and imagined they were celebrating Diwali. Reception would like to wish a belated Happy Diwali to those of you who celebrated this festival in the half term holiday.
The tuff tray has been put to good use as an extension activity in number work. Enthusiastic mathematicians have been accurately counting the spots on dominoes and matching them with the corresponding number. As a continuation to their Maths topic work, pupils have learnt about different lengths. They looked at some of the artwork produced by the artist, Wassily Kandinsky and created paintings showing variations in lines, colours and patterns. Their paintings certainly brighten up the classroom!
We cannot wait to see what next week brings!
