Year 11 begin their transition into Sixth Form
22 May 2020
Year 11 were welcomed 'back' to school this week. They were given an amazing emotional ‘Goodbye’ assembly from Mrs Mooney, Head of Year 11 and Miss Glover, Assistant Head of Year 11, before an introduction to Sixth Form life from Mrs Ehiogu, Head of Year 12. The leadership team of Head Girl Naomi Okafor and deputies Fiona Mellor and Myra Hassan were also on hand to share their experiences of Sixth Form and tips about navigating and succeeding in Year 12.
They were then given an exciting range of activities to get involved with for the week. They were introduced to the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the Independent Project by Ms Harrison, Ms Richardson and Mr Smith, whilst Mrs Macro outlined 'Mastery, Acquisition, Challenge, Research Opportunity of Massive Open Online Courses' or 'Macro MOOCs' for short and how doing an online course could help develop skills and knowledge or offer the challenge and fun of trying something new. Mrs Smith, Assistant Head of Sixth Form, inspired reading for pleasure with book recommendations from the Sixth Form Team and students. Mrs Parsons, Head of Year 13, motivated them to keep their fitness with daily sessions led by the PE staff.
Each morning, girls had the chance to enjoy sessions from Mindfulness to Careers and First Aid to Politics. The girls have already impressed the Sixth Form Team with their focused, energetic involvement this week and we cannot wait to work with the girls again after half term as they embark on their journey into Sixth Form life.
