Year 7 Takes on Spelling Bee

Senior School

28 February 2025

There was no let-up of pace for Year 7 as they wrapped up the half-term with an exciting Spelling Bee in the Octagon. The energy was high as the entire year group gathered for the much-anticipated EHS annual competition.

Competing in their houses, the girls were asked a series of quick-fire spellings across a range of subjects, from Science and Music to Languages, Art and Technology, Classics and Humanities. But the challenge didn’t stop there; they were also asked to define a plethora of words, such as ‘sublimation’, ‘nominative’ and ‘carbohydrate’.

The atmosphere was tense as representatives from each of the houses fought hard to win the coveted Spelling Bee Cup! In a dramatic finish, it all came down to a tiebreaker between St Patrick and St Andrew.

Congratulations St Andrew for emerging victorious! A fantastic effort from all participants—what a way to end the half term!
