A Lesson in Cyber Awareness from Social Media Duo
29 April 2022
At the end of last term, Years 8 and 9 were visited by teenage social media sensations Max and Harvey, in which they gave a talk on cyber bullying and the importance of cyber awareness in social media. The girls were really excited and anticipation was high, with many even designing banners to support the duo.
The girls found the talk extremely interesting and beneficial, as was shown by the vast range of questions asked during the Q+A session ranging from “how to develop resilience and feel comfortable online”, to “what is Simon Cowell really like”!
However, it was not all ‘strictly business’ as the girls were treated to performances of their original songs including their newly released song, Girlfriend.
Before Year 8 and 9’s arrival into the hall we had the opportunity to talk to them about their experiences of having such a huge public platform. We talked to them about their Celebrity X Factor experience as well as the technicalities of their music production process. For example, we were fascinated to learn about the difference between autotune and melodyne with Harvey explaining how their TikTok comment section is full of users saying, “I can hear the auto tune”, in which he responds “that is interesting because there isn’t any and instead, we use something called melodyne which is a pitch corrector. It is almost impossible to sing with perfect pitch unless you’re like (international popstar) Charlie Puth”. Totally agreed there, Max and Harvey!
The Sixth Form hosts Jess, Davina, Indira, Naba and Lujayn did a wonderful job of working together, with Jess, Naba and Lujayn gathering excellent social media content and our digital ambassadors Davina and Indira managing the Q+A and asking thought-provoking questions around the topic of cyber awareness. Overall, the event was a wonderful end of term treat and many long-term memories have been made.
