An Adventure Away from Home
20 May 2022
After Year 4 and Year 5 came back buzzing from their residential trips, it was the turn of Year 6 last week to visit Boreatton Park in Shropshire. There was nervous excitement
as we departed school, as, for many this was the first trip away from home due to multiple lockdowns. Girls were excited to find out who they would be sharing a dorm with for
the week and even more excited to get going with the activities.
While Jacob’s Ladder, Abseiling and High Ropes tested our nerves, raft building was a firm favourite with Year 6. The bursts of giggles could be heard from the shore, while
pupils sailed their rafts around the lake and joined in with the challenges. They enjoyed splashing each other and even the instructors. Attendees of the Marvellous Maths Club
in school could put their skills into practice with the problem solving session. The instructors were amazed at how quickly our pupils grasped the puzzles in ‘Puzzle Park’ and
worked together to solve the tricky challenges. Canoeing gave us all an opportunity to work together on the local river. We learned how to turn the canoe and took part in some
very wet games!
The instructors got all the girls involved, whether it was signing on the way to the activity or scaling a wall to help a particularly nervous climber. The campfire did not disappoint either, giving the girls plenty of catchy songs to sing while on the bus ride home! As always, everyone we met was very complimentary of our pupils. The instructors commented that the girls so clearly cared for each other and supported their classmates to do well.
Our week away certainly challenged our resilience, teamwork and stamina but what an adventure! Who knew making memories was going to be so much fun?
