Around the World at Christmas

Senior School

10 December 2021

Christmas took on a very international flavour when the Languages scholars led an assembly to find out how different countries around the world celebrate Christmas.

Aided by students from Year 9 and the Sixth Form, their presentation of information and eye-catching visuals led the audience around the world on a journey of discovery about the varied Christmas traditions in the French, German and Spanish-speaking countries, as well as across some Commonwealth countries.

The Chamber Choir closed the assembly with a beautiful rendition of “Silent Night” in French, German, Spanish, Mandarin and, of course, English.

It was a truly enjoyable experience which set the tone for the last few days in school ahead of the Christmas holidays. My most sincere gratitude must go to the team of Sixth Form scholars and their helpers for preparing such an outstanding assembly, as well as the Chamber Choir and their helpers for their amazing singing.

On behalf of the Modern Foreign Languages department, I would like to wish all staff, parents and students at Edgbaston High School:

Frohe Weihnachten
Joyeux Noël
Feliz Navidad
Buon Natale
聖誕快樂
and a very Happy Christmas!
