Workshops in a Winter Wonderland

Senior School

10 December 2021

Girls in Year 8 took part in 'Winter Wonderland', a carousel of winter workshops designed to get them into a festive mood and also to give them some much need time for team building and friendship bonding experiences.

There were opportunities for girls to participate in a funky Dance and Disco Workshop with Miss Lawrence who inspired the girls with new moves and group lifts ambitious enough to rival the dancers on Strictly Come Dancing.

An innovative and imaginative Arts and Crafts Workshop led by Miss Mullett helped the girls design and create their own wrapping paper. Their beautiful design would not have looked out of place on the shelves at Selfridges and Liberty!

A Wreath- Making Workshop uncovered the hidden talents of Mrs Lee and Mr Ball and the room was full of colourful baubles, tinsel and, seemingly, enough greenery to make enough wreaths for the doors of all of the houses in Birmingham!

Finally, there was also a selfless and generous Charity Toy Wrapping Workshop where all girls in Year 8 had contributed chocolate selection boxes to be beautifully wrapped and adorned with labels and cards to be donated to local charities. This was all under the expert guidance of Mrs Matthews who made a fantastic conveyor belt of production and librarian Mrs Lee who helped girls with the chaos of the glitter. In the famous words of Madame Gazelle, the “glitter gets everywhere” and indeed we know this to be true as it has remained in the library ever since.

After a busy morning, the afternoon was the perfect time to settle down and watch a Christmas film with the necessary and delicious accompaniments of hot chocolate and buckets of popcorn and sweets.

At the heart of the EHS ethos are the traits of kindness, compassion, friendship and generosity and we hope that the girls enjoyed their day in the Year 8 Winter Wonderland, remembering the qualities that are most important in our community.
