Celebration of diversity on World Languages Day
27 September 2019
On Wednesday 25 September, the Prep School celebrated the multi-cultural diversity of our school community in a special EHS World Languages Day. This was held in advance of the recognised European Languages Day on 26 September.
The girls in each year group had been busy learning general greetings in a variety of languages which they all shared during our assembly. Year 6 greeted everyone in Bosnian, Year 5 in Maltese, Year 4 in Italian, Year 3 in Portuguese, Year 2 in German and Year 1 in Greek.
Individual girls then shared a number of their own languages with us. Some girls dressed in traditional costumes too or brought a special item in to share.
Other nations were also celebrated through the language of dance with three of our girls demonstrating dances from America, Cuba and Greece. They even enlisted the help of some of the teachers.
At lunchtime, the Dining Room was decorated with world flags and the menu reflected our special day.
We also wished Madame Hennous, our MFL teacher ‘Bon Anniversaire!’, on her special day.
