Creative writers have stories published

05 July 2019

Three Year 8 EHS girls have been successful in having their work published in a special national collection.

Emily James, Isobel Hemming and Emmie McLaughlan each entered a mini saga into the Young Writers’ competition ‘Mission Catastrophe.’  They had to write a story of challenge, destruction and survival in just 100 words, being as descriptive as possible in their limited word count. Emily’s story, entitled ‘The Demons Are Coming’, is an evocative piece focusing on Kai, who tries to dodge his way through Birmingham during a crisis, while Emmie’s piece ‘Drowning’ explores a catastrophe at sea. Isobel’s piece ‘Nuclear War’ is a dramatic and emotive account of a narrator’s experiences of a nuclear attack.

Each of the girls have received a copy of the book, as well as a special certificate documenting their achievements.

All of the girls regularly attend the school’s Creative Writing Club, which is run by two teachers from the English Department and takes place on a Friday lunchtime.
