A showcase of talent and skill

Senior School

22 March 2019

Earlier this week, Edgbaston High School was delighted to host its first Dance Platform event, with six additional schools from around the Midlands in attendance.

This was an opportunity for students of dance to demonstrate what they have been working on, be it extracurricular or examination work. The standard of the performances was phenomenal and all students in attendance enjoyed the high quality of dancing. Styles demonstrated ranged from contemporary to jazz and explored themes which are particularly potent and relevant in today’s society, such as the threat of plastic pollution and its effects on the environment, and fighting for equal rights for minorities.

Dance scholar Ellie McQuiggan-Smith said: "We have really enjoyed today's event. From the other schools' performances we were able to see other styles and concepts that we, ourselves, haven’t yet explored and this has inspired our creativity moving forward."

The event was a fantastic opportunity for all students involved to see the variety of work produced and performed by dancers of their age, inspiring them to continue their commitment to The Arts. We look forward to hosting another Dance Platform in the future.
