Down on the Farm

Preparatory

01 July 2022

On Friday, Year 2 were very excited about their trip to Ash End Farm and the girls bounced into school with smiles on their faces ready for their action-packed day ahead. As soon as they saw the sign the girls started chanting in excitement of their day. First, we went to see the Creepy Critters where the girls had the choice to hold a snake and an iguana. The girls, and some of the staff, were so brave and most of the girls either held or touched both animals, with comments of ‘Wow!’ and ‘It’s so soft’ about the snake.  They also learned a lot about where the snakes lived and what they ate.

Then it was off to the Falconry where the girls saw a variety of different species of owls, eagles and a falcon, they lost count of how many they saw!  Next it was lunch, which is always exciting on a trip!

After lunch the girls were taken on a tour of the farm with Farmer Deb, who took the girls to see the goats first. Sharing information of how to look after the goats and where they came from, the girls then got the chance to feed the goats some leaves for lunch and then oats for dessert. Excited shrieks could be heard from the girls whilst feeding the goats!

Next stop was the sheep, where the girls saw lambs and got to feed the older sheep, who were very eager to be fed. After that it was time to see the chicks and the girls got a chance to see a chick that only hatched earlier that morning and sang ‘Happy Hatchday!’ The girls had a chance to stroke a few young chicks and held a chick too. The girls all commented about how cute and soft the chicks were. Then the girls each choose their own freshly laid egg to take home.

Girls also saw cows, pigs, ducks and geese before it was time to go home. The girls, and staff, all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and talked excitedly about all the animals they had seen and fed all the way back to school. Well done Year 2!
