Archers Hit the Mark
08 July 2022
Pupils Violet and Abigail have both had an extremely successful weekend doing Archery at the Junior National Outdoor Championships held at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre.
After a weekend of tough competition (and both shooting at the same target!), Abigail was crowned as the U14 national outdoor champion for ladies recurve and Violet as the U14 national outdoor champion for ladies compound. Their performances will contribute to the possibility of selection for Archery GB in the near future; good luck, girls!
For those wondering what the difference is between the two bows (recurve and compound), Abigail has provided a brief summary:
• Magnification/Sight: Magnification of the target is not allowed in recurve whereas every compound sight is made to magnify.
• Release aid: Recurve archers are not allowed to use a release aid (they release the string with their fingers) whereas the process for compound archers is
mechanised through the use of a button.
• Strain: For recurve archers, when the bow is drawn back it is at its heaviest point whereas there is a let-off for compound archers which reduces the draw
weight.
We are so proud of everything Abigail and Violet have achieved and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them both.
