Dragon Boat Race a success

On Saturday 9 June, plucky staff from Edgbaston High School’s Senior Department took to the waters of Edgbaston Reservoir to raise money for charity by taking part in the Birmingham Dragon Boat Race.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Edgbaston, the event involved 17 teams from across the West Midlands including the University of Birmingham and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
A vocal crowd of enthusiastic supporters lined the water’s edge to admire the range of fancy dress outfits as the competitors summoned their strength to power the Chinese longboats to the finish line. Sadly, the EHS team were pipped at the post coming in a very respectable second place, narrowly missing out on winning the race by just one second!
The EHS fundraising effort was spearheaded by Senior Teacher Lara Batchelor. She said, “This is our second year competing at this event; it’s a great team-building activity and we have thoroughly enjoyed the day. We are delighted to be able to support the Muscular Dystrophy UK and Little Hearts Matter charities through the race and have almost reached our target of £1,000.”
