First prize for Year 6 scientists
29 March 2019
In the Prep School Celebration assembly this week we presented certificates to our group of Year 6 Scientists who recently won a national competition having competed against many secondary schools.
The letter received from the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 congratulated the girls on their winning entry in this year’s Aspire to Engineer Genetic Engineering Challenge. The standard of entries they said was incredibly high, but the judging panel had been particularly impressed with our entry. The mission of the Aspire to Engineer competition is an initiative for schools to extend the influence of science and art upon productive industry and they felt our entry embodied this aim.
The letter from the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 wrote, ‘Your pupils demonstrated how genetic engineering can be made accessible to a younger group through their innovative playground fair. The consideration given to the positive and negative aspects of genetics was coupled with fun and educational presentation. The judges commended their ideas for genetically modified applications such as rain absorbing grass to stop flooding.’
This is an incredible achievement of which we are very proud.
