Geographers Head for the Hills
01 July 2022
Last week the Geography department took Year 7 to the Malvern Hills to practise their map skills, as well as conduct an environmental survey at three sites along the walk.
We began our walk at Gardiner’s Quarry, where the girls ranked the site on various factors regarding the appearance, noise level, and how affected the area was by the public. Then we began our ascent to the top of Black Hill, taking in the beautiful views on the way up. At the peak, we carried out our Map Skills activity. The girls were able to apply the skills they had learnt in class, such as compass directions and six figure grid references, as well as see the landscapes around them represented on a 2D map.
After a group photo on the peak of the hill and completing the second environmental quality survey, we began the walk back down to British Camp car park. Here the girls enjoyed their lunch in the sunshine at the café and completed their final environmental survey.
We were extremely lucky to have beautiful weather on both days, ending our trip with an ice cream at our final site. Year 7 were excellent representatives of the school and were complimented by members of the public on how polite and respectful they were.
Well done Year 7, you did EHS proud!
