Girls on Board - Happier Girls Do Better
22 October 2021
The ‘Girls on Board’ initiative has been introduced recently to Years 7-9.
'Girls on Board' is an approach which helps girls, their parents and their teachers to understand the complexities and dynamics of girl friendships. The language, methods and ideas empower girls to solve their own friendship problems by finding their own solutions, so parents worry less, schools can focus more on the curriculum and the girls learn more effectively – because they are happier.
We believe this approach will allow girls to take an honest look at their friendships and to be able to give them the tools they need to help them to ‘navigate the sometimes choppy seas of friendship’. We acknowledged that as adults, we often forget the impact that conflicts within friendships can have on girls. They can find these conflicts difficult to manage which can then easily spiral into a distressing cycle – whilst all the time taking their focus off school work. We hope to give them the language and the tools they need to help them identify various behavioural traits and then support them to be more confident in successfully managing their relationship conflicts.
Being a Year Head really allows you to appreciate the impact of friendship conflicts on students and we ensure we are always on hand to facilitate a ‘Girls on Board’ session between them and their peers.
EHS is just at the start of our ‘Girls on Board’ journey and we look forward to working with girls across the key stages to embed this approach into our the school’s philosophy and wider community.
