Head's End of Term Message
Westbourne | Preparatory | Senior School | Sixth Form
15 December 2022
It has been a fantastic few weeks; we have been able to do everything that we wanted in the Autumn Term, without restriction, for the first time in an exceptionally long time. There has been singing, dancing, musical, and theatrical performances, Christmas jumpers, Christmas door competitions, poetry slams, awards assemblies, Christmas lunches, carol services, charity events and of course the continuation of teaching and learning.
There have been so many highlights but watching the youngest in our school perform a Nativity with many wonderful and priceless moments, and the oldest in the school lead the Senior School in an outstanding Gala really highlights what the school does so well across the whole age range in terms of developing confidence and the skills needed to be happy and successful. The House Captains and Year 13 were tremendous in bringing their houses together, being inclusive and showing just why EHS is the place to be. And it is fair to say I never thought that I would share the stage with three unicorns, but at EHS you should always expect the unexpected!
At the end of a term, I often ask my colleagues and pupils to reflect on how much has been achieved over that term. The pace of life at EHS is very quick and too often we can forget what we have done, the progress we have made and goals we have reached. I had the pleasure of reading Year 9 reports last week and it was wonderful to read about all the things they do in the co-curriculum, the commitment they show to their studies and the enjoyment they have for learning. I have also had the pleasure of teaching Year 5 this term, and their wonderful energy and enthusiasm is a boost for all; they simply love learning new things and telling you about all the things that they already know. It is a real joy and privilege to teach them. However, it does not matter what section of the school you walk through you will meet the same wonderful energy, dynamism, and joy.
I am immensely proud to be the Head of Edgbaston High School for Girls and proud of all the girls and staff. Everyone works incredibly hard to create an environment where all can grow and flourish.
At the end of this term, we said farewell to four members of staff:
Miss Clinton: Westbourne Teaching Assistant
Mrs Crompton: Prep teacher and Year 4 Co-ordinator
Miss Flitter: Senior School Classics teacher
Mr Deeley: Senior School Science teacher
We thank them for their commitment to the girls, wonderful teaching, and inspirational guidance. They will be missed a great deal, but we wish them all the best as they embark on new ventures. I thank you all also for your support this term and for attending the many events on offer; it has been lovely to see so many of you in school.
I hope that you all have a safe, peaceful, and restful holiday period, and I look forward to welcoming your daughters back to school in January.
