We ended last week welcoming parents and guests to the Prep School Carol Service which was held in the Octagon for the first time. The service included communal singing, items from our two Junior Choirs, Year 6 hand bell playing and an address from Reverend Chris Mitton. Tea and mince pies which followed gave parents the opportunity to catch up before the holiday.
This week has been full of Christmas activities leading up to our final Celebration Assembly. Girls in Years 3 – 6 have been busy competing in the Inter-House General Knowledge Quiz. The scores for each year group were totalled and there were congratulations for Frank House, the winners.
Tuesday was party day when there were party clothes galore on show. The girls enjoyed traditional party food and games in Prep Hall, classrooms and the Octagon. They clearly enjoyed themselves and left school with many smiles.
In our Celebration Assembly on Wednesday we were treated to some seasonal music performances from our Flute Group and from Davica Roles who played White Christmas on the piano. We also recognised a number of individual achievements with a Well Done certificate for Remah Visram who has completed all of her Autumn Term Challenges. There were Stage 1, 2 and 3 awards for Holly Robinson for gymnastics and an Independent Learning certificate for Taniah Joshi for her Christmas themed time machine.
During the morning we also awarded prizes for our Christmas Door Competition as voted for by the girls on their ‘Door Tour’ on Monday morning. The winning classes were 2S, 4N and 6H. The Elf Hunt results were also announced and, although no one found all 19 elves, three classes found 18 of them and 3L, 5D and 5F won chocolate coins.
We acknowledged academic work from the term with Certificates of Achievement and exemplary behaviour with the Courtesy Counts draw. Our Charity Champions announced the overall silver bag total and presented the Care Bears to 2S and 4M for raising the most donations. We were all delighted to hear that our fund raising efforts from Westbourne Christmas Fair, Carol Service contributions and our Jumper tree decorations have resulted in £481 being sent to Birmingham Children’s hospital, our chosen charity.
House event results caused much celebration for Frank House who won the Inter-House Netball Trophy and Curie who received the House Points Cup for the term. Everyone is now looking forward to representing their House in further events next term.
Anisha, our Eco Champion, drew the winners from the Switch Off Fortnight Scavenger Hunt which took place earlier in the term with many girls indicating they had kept their eco pledges to save energy. This was good news.
Our final award went to Mrs Crompton who we wished farewell to as she leaves us to move to Malaysia and we finished assembly with our School Song and the traditional three cheers for the holiday.
We wish everyone a happy holiday, a good break and a Merry Christmas.
