Lab Rats Make Crunchie Foam

Stand aside Cadbury, there's a new team of confectioners in town! This week, the Lab Rats were making Crunchie foam bringing the Science and F&N departments even closer together. During the sessions the Year 7 girls added sodium hydrogen carbonate to melted sugars. They observed the rapid expansion as the carbon dioxide gas formed puffed up the sugar. As then fixed the bubble patterns in position the foam cooled.
Sadly, we weren't able to taste the potentially delicious products of the reaction, but we were compensated with a Crunchie bar each at the end.
