Staff Perform with 'Birmingham Voices'
28 January 2022
In addition to leading the school’s wonderful Music Department, its staff have been busy in their musical engagements outside of school too.
Last summer four members of the department undertook a professional performance supporting superstar tenor Russell Watson in the closing night of his 20th Anniversary Tour at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. Staff sang with Russell as part of ‘Birmingham Voices’, the choir directed by our very own Choirmaster Mr Skilbeck.
This sell-out concert kicked off a busy season that saw Birmingham Voices performing in a ‘Christmas Spectacular’ at Birmingham Symphony Hall and Glasgow Concert Hall and a tour of 'The Greatest Show Tunes' at the Symphony Hall and The Barbican London. Further Birmingham Voices engagements are in the pipeline later in the year, including projects with Raymon Gubbay and Sony Music.
Birmingham Voices was brought into being six years ago ahead of a tour with American singer-songwriter Josh Groban. Since then they have gone from strength to strength, appearing on multiple featured episodes of BBC Songs of Praise as well as tours across the UK.
As usual, wherever possible, older EHS students are actively encouraged to join with the choir’s performances in order to gain professional experience and in the past many of our own Chamber Choir have done so, lending their voices to concerts in Birmingham and further afield.
