The school welcomed a number of former pupils at the weekend as the Laurels Association (formerly the Old Girls’ Association) held its annual Open House.  It was lovely hearing the members reminiscing about their exploits at school and it was clear how important EHS friendships are and how many memories they take with them from school.

This week has certainly given the girls opportunities to add to their own store of memories to reflect on in the future. For girls in Years 1 – 4 the sports opportunities offered by Cricket All Stars and Dynamos were a good example. You can read more about these workshops in the separate article.  Mrs Sawyers was very pleased by the enthusiasm the girls displayed and we are sure many girls will pursue this sport.

Art is always a popular subject too and many of our girls have enjoyed creating pictures of spring flowers. Year 6 have sketched and painted a range of different flowers using watercolours.  Year 2 used pastels to create their tulips and daffodils. They then extended their studies further by writing Haiku poems and then dissecting the flowers as part of their Science lessons.

Year 2 have also been studying the growth of beans in Science. The girls have been observing the changes in growth daily and were delighted to see the germination on day 4.  Meanwhile Year 4 have been studying a different type of plants as they continued their Geography studies at the Botanical Gardens with a visit to the tropical houses and they also sketched some of the flowers and plants that they saw.

Year 5 History Club was given the opportunity to further their knowledge about a different time period when they enjoyed their Aztec feast this week. All of these opportunities were food for thought for potential British Science Week posters which this year are focused on the title, ‘Time’. This was the topic of our assembly on Tuesday and we hope many of the girls are considering entering both the National and internal school Competitions.

Thursday gave us the opportunity to focus on books as we marked World Book Day. The girls in Years 1 – 6 were invited to decorate a wooden spoon, or spatula, as a well known book character. The results caused much excitement as everyone showcased their entries in our special assembly before putting them on display to be enjoyed further.

Friday brought our Celebration assembly with congratulations to our winning swim squad ‘A’ Team who won the gala against Holy Trinity School on Thursday evening. There were also individual congratulations for Anna Sharif and Eliza Meade who were successful in a number of events at the Boldmere Gala.  Robyn Shankarwalia has passed her Prep Piano Test with ABRSM.  Zahra Master was presented with a trophy for being the most improved played at her football team and Denver Barnes received her orange karate belt.  Tilly Cooke was our latest recipient of a Challenge Board certificate for her Zentangle entry.

There was certainly much to celebrate and we wish good luck to our netballers on their residential weekend and to our team taking part in the Hallfield Invitational Cross Country event.  We also look forward to Year 1 parents joining us for assembly on Tuesday and to our Year 3 and 4 Teatime Concert on Thursday.  Then we have Red Nose Day fun on Friday to look forward to.  We are sure everyone will enjoy some rest this weekend even though many of the girls have their LAMDA examinations to make final preparations for.
