Botanists at the Botanics

Preparatory

08 March 2024

Year 4 are studying the Rainforests of the world as part of their Geography curriculum. They are currently looking at the plants and how they have adapted to live in such a damp and warm environment.

On Monday afternoon, the girls visited the hot houses in the Botanical Gardens to look at the native plants and to experience the humid conditions they grow in. Whilst in the hot houses they drew palms, orchids and pitcher plants, the insect eating plants.

The girls asked some fantastic questions and learnt, first hand, how the plants grew and developed.

Outside, in the gardens, they observed the primroses and daffodils, the different leaf sizes and the colourful flowers. On return to the classrooms the girls added colour to their drawings.
