On Saturday evening, members of Prep Basketball Club had the opportunity to watch the Birmingham Rockets mens and ladies teams playing live. Being courtside certainly brought the sport to life and we all enjoyed the excitement of the matches and the wins for both of the teams we were supporting.
This week began with an assembly for the parents of the girls in 6I. The girls shared some of their learning about Shakespeare with us. There were many facts about the famous playwright and the Globe Theatre. There was also much singing and some very dramatic acting which The Bard himself would have been very proud of.
Tuesday was Safer Internet Day and the girls have been reminded about how to stay safe online and about how to behave online too. We hope parents will join us for the forthcoming parents’ workshop to add further advice.
The week has also been Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week and Miss Robinson and our Year 6 Pastoral Mentors reminded everyone in assembly about the importance of keeping our brains healthy. There was a focus on being kind both to others and ourselves. Girls were also given access to a Kindness Calendar which families might like to complete together.
On Thursday it was the turn of the girls in 6H to entertain their parents in assembly. They shared information from their History studies on the world wars and the ancient Greeks. They had made numerous props for their drama which again included singing and acting.
Thursday evening saw our Year 5 and 6 members of Swim Squad travel to Abberley Hall School with a Year 7 and 8 Team. We enjoyed the gala which saw some excellent swimming and competitive spirit. We were delighted to come away with a win for the A Team and some delicious flapjack! Our Sports Captains gave a good account of the fixture in our Friday assembly.
The week has finished with our regular Celebration Assembly. We were pleased to hear about the success of the dance production which Grace, Year 5 and Ava and Eliza M in Year 4 performed in last weekend at the Crescent Theatre. There were Piano Day Challenge Board certificates for Ranye, Year 1 and Hana and Haaniya in Year 4. Safa was our Morning Musician this week playing the piano and she also received her Grade 2 certificate passed with distinction.
Esme in Year 3 received an Independent Learning certificate for her cat booklet. We were also pleased to see some more of Helin’s art work. Well done also to Year 2 girls who excelled in the Times table Rock Stars class challenge with 2S being the winners on this occasion.
Mrs Dawes awarded the prizes for the Year 1 and 2 ‘Special Places’ project linked to World Religion Day. The models and posters have been displayed in school for everyone to see and we have been most impressed by the variety of places represented and the range of skills involved. Congratulations to all girls who worked on a project and to Samah Hussain, Layla Abedi, Zoe Holden-Jones and Layyan Saleem our individual winners.
Next week we look forward to welcoming Year 5 and 6 parents to the meeting about the Condover Netball weekend and to out annual Inter House Pancake Race due to take place on Friday.
