In the Preparatory School we are always aiming to extend the girls’ classroom learning with a wide range of experiences and you can discover more about these in the accompanying articles.

Last week the girls in Westbourne particularly enjoyed meeting some unusual animals when the Lion Learners came to visit.  For Reception girls this extends the term’s topic on ‘Creatures Great and Small’.  At the same time, girls in Year 1 were enjoying using a range of skills in different curriculum areas involving their favourite toys.

France was the destination of our intrepid Year 6 travellers.  School was quieter without them and we were very delighted to welcome them back this week and to hear about their adventures.  It was also very pleasing to hear from staff all of compliments received on the behaviour and demeanour of the girls whilst they were away.  They were a great credit to the school.

In addition to congratulating our Year 6 there were also awards made to Isadora for Musical Theatre and skiing and Neha for her Stage Coach progress. Following on from our recent Young Musician event we also presented certificates to our musicians who all passed their recent Associated Board examinations in Jazz Flute, piano, trumpet, singing and theory.  The weekly Well Done certificates were awarded for a range of good work and behaviour to girls in Years 1 and 2.

Tuesday was an extremely busy day.  The ’Prep School in Action Day’ brought many visitors to the school and the Year 6 guides were exemplary in conducting the tours.  They then enjoyed their first enrichment afternoon of the term with sessions in Bikeability and First Aid.  Meanwhile, girls in Years 4 and 5 joined Year 7 to enjoy a visit from the author Abi Elphinstone.

We have ended the week with a History trip to Harvington Hall for Year 4 and the whole school concert featuring ensembles from both Prep and Senior School.

Next week I hope that everyone enjoys the Bank Holiday day on Monday and we wish our Year 5 girls well as they head off for Cranedale and their week away.  We also look forward to welcoming Blue Coat Year 3 and 4 swimmers for the gala on Tuesday.
