What a busy week has passed in Prep with many girls involved in preparations for performances and school events. We have made excellent use of the outdoors for filming some of these too.

Year 6 have been performing dance sequences for their Midsummer Night’s Dream performances and Year 2 have been recording their Minibeasts Concert. We are really looking forward to seeing the finished recordings.

Further time outside in the great outdoors was the order of the day for Year 6 when they visited Bassetts Pole Adventure Centre on Tuesday. They experienced den building, laser tag and the opportunity to toast marshmallows over the fire.  They thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

Meanwhile Year 3 have taken a trip to the Arctic by joining a live lesson from Jamie Buchanan-Dunlop who has visited the Arctic seven times. They performed an experiment to learn about how animals are suited to the harsh conditions and then had the opportunity to ask questions.  This helped to keep them cool during this warm weather.

It was a pleasure to share some of Year 5 girls’ work this week. The workbooks from their recent Eco Adventure Week are very well completed and form a good memory for them of the experience.  It was also entertaining to watch the interviews they had recorded with members of their families asking questions about their favourite books. These interviews have provided an excellent and varied reading list for the summer holiday.  The girls could certainly consider future careers in presenting.
Year 5 also enjoyed a Victorian Day with a workshop which is reported on separately.

Assemblies this week gave the opportunity to mark International Women in Engineering Day. We looked at some very famous, pioneering women from across the ages who had achieved great outcomes. We also tried to define the broad term ‘engineering’ and found it encompassed a huge range of skills.

We also looked at the shortlist for the Lollies - the Laugh Out Loud Book Awards. This will give everyone some holiday reading to enjoy.

In our Celebration Assembly we congratulated Holly Robinson on receiving a Blue Peter badge for badge for writing a story about her Daddy’s teddy. We also awarded medals to Jemima Palmer-Duncton for playing in the winning team, Hogwarts, in the Harborne Little League. Jemima had clearly enjoyed playing netball with girls from other schools and we congratulate her on this success.

Year 1 and 2 again received Well Done certificates for a wide range of achievements and we were also able to present the final Bronze certificate to our young Rookie Lifeguards.  Well done to everyone.

Next week we are looking forward to a number of House Events as Years 4 and 5 take to the water for their galas and everyone will head to the field for Sports Day so we are hoping for good weather.  Year 3 are also keen to join the Viking Invasion which is visiting us on Thursday.
