In addition to their regular curriculum lessons, there has been much extension of classroom studies this week.
The allotment received a number of EHS visitors. On Tuesday, our Eco Reps planted two plum trees as part of the Queen’s Canopy project. The Gardening Club carried on with their regular activity in the evening and enjoyed looking at the new additions to our Community Plot. Year 3 have also visited the EHS allotment as part of their Science work on plants. They looked at the different stages of development of a strawberry and searched for leaves and flowers to measure.
Tuesday also saw Year 6 continuing with their weekly enrichment programme. The girls swapped activities this week and the second half of the year group had a great time when Drone Days visited, once again, with their Airborne Agility Drones. The girls applied their knowledge of coding to input flight paths and create aerobatic displays. The other half of the year group enjoyed tennis and squash at Priory Club. Great fun was had by all!
Sports have featured largely this week too and it is very satisfying to be playing matches again. On Monday, members of the Swim Squad visited Warwick School for a gala, which they enjoyed. Following their first match last week, the Cricket Squad took part in a tournament on Wednesday at Hallfield School. They were delighted to win their first match and we are very proud of their performance. We congratulate Freya Boocock who was awarded Player of the Match.
Co-curricular sports clubs have continued too with Dance, Tennis, Cricket, Fencing and Karate Clubs very well attended.
We have also enjoyed welcoming parents to a number of events this week. Many parents joined us for our three Inter-House galas for Years 2, 3 and 6. The results of these galas and the other two year groups after half term will be added together and the winner of the Swimming Cup will announced towards the end of term. We think it will be a close finish.
Parents also joined us for the Year 5 and 6 Teatime Concert when our soloists treated us to a musical end to the day with some high quality performances. We are looking forward to the Annual Prep Summer Ensemble Concert on June 15.
Our week has ended with the Celebration Assembly when we marked all of the above achievements. We also celebrated some individual achievements with the presentation of several Music awards for Davica Roles who has gained her Grade 2 Music Theory and Amelia Hindle for her Initial Piano. Year 3 girls have been busy with their Independent Learning and there were awards for Supreeta Kalsi Jogi for parrot research, Eliza Meade for her Fair Trade facts and Sahib Kaur Sandhu for her continuous line drawing of a penguin.
There were also Headteacher’s certificates for Orla Woodman for her excellent History work, for Hana Aslam for raising £800 for Cancer Research in the Race for Life and to Jashvita Santhosh for taking part in the Manchester Mini Marathon and for continuing to raise money for the Birmingham Dogs’ Home. Well done to all girls.
We will report after the holiday on our Jubilee Celebrations. I close wishing everyone a well-earned half term break and I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday June 6.
