In our final week of last term, we enjoyed our annual Guitar Ensemble assembly. Our guitarists played a seasonal selection of Christmas songs which everyone sang along to. We also enjoyed a performance of a French Carol from all girls in Years 1 – 6 and a Spanish Carol from Year 6. The term’s House trophies were also presented, and we congratulated Johnson House on winning the General Knowledge Cup and Curie on winning the House Point Cup for the term.
We have started this term with a warm welcome to new staff and pupils. Miss Gough, our new Nursery Teacher, has enjoyed her first week at EHS with the two new girls who have joined her. We have also welcomed new girls into Kindergarten, Reception and Year 6. We hope they will enjoy being part of the EHS community.
In our first assembly of the new term we celebrated the individual success of Olivia and Freya in their swimming competitions and we congratulated Agatha and Bonnie on completing the 311 step climb to the top of the Monument in London. We look forward to presenting further awards as the term progresses.
As we reiterated the need for rules in our school and our country we were once again able to thank Sofia, Florence and their family for their very generous gift to the school of an illustrated version of the Magna Carta. We will be using this in our studies of the rule of law and the rights of people. Our version is particularly special as it has been signed by Brenda Hale, Lady Hale of Richmond, who is the first woman to hold the post of President of the Supreme Court. An inspiration to the girls.
Our own Prep Parliament will be meeting next week, and we thank them for their work in providing new playground equipment for everyone.
Mrs Poade has launched the subject challenge for this half term which is based on religious symbols. We hope the girls will enjoy finding out more about the major religions of the world and we ask parents to encourage their daughters to take up the challenge.
This week we also welcomed Reception girls to our Key Stage 1 assembly where we looked at new year celebrations around the world. We hope they are looking forward to joining us each week as part of their transition to the Prep Department.
Next week we have Giles Abbott joining us in Prep for a story-telling workshop in Year 3 and Year 5 are visiting the Barber Institute. Our Year 5 and 6 swimmers are also competing in a gala against Blue Coat School and we wish them good luck.
I close wishing all of our Prep and Westbourne families a happy and successful year ahead.
