Rehearsals for 'Miss Saigon' get underway

Senior School | Sixth Form | Parents

13 September 2019

Over the summer holidays students involved in our forthcoming production attended five days of intensive rehearsals for ‘Miss Saigon’. Girls from EHS were joined by the male cast members for the first time and worked closely with expert vocal coaches Grace Farrell (EHS Old Girl), Lizzy Cragg, George Stuart, Richard Skilbeck and Bethany Lucas (EHS Old Girl).

Days one and two consisted of Principal rehearsals and vocal coaching. On day three, further soloists and the remaining boys joined the rehearsals prior to the full cast coming into school for the final two days.  Following an extensive chorus rehearsal on day four the students were ready to attempt the first complete run though of the production.

On the morning of the final day of rehearsals the cast gave a full run through to both act one and two without pause, which is an incredible achievement for a show of this scale based on the small amount of rehearsal time used.  The final afternoon consisted of staging the famous ‘Heat is on in Saigon’ number from act 1, a very energetic, full company number that introduces many of the main characters.

On returning to school the Principal characters performed an extract from Act one in Music Assembly, ‘Movie in My Mind’.  This was the first glimpse into how a part of the show might look as the cast made use of a small set, props, costumes, lighting and microphones.

As the term progresses, do look out for promotional material and follow the cast’s progress as we head towards the much anticipated opening night.
Many thanks to all involved.
