Spotlight on Careers: Dentistry

Last week we were lucky enough to welcome Old Girl Dr Sumandeep Kailey back into school. Sumandeep graduated as a dentist last year and is soon to start her first job in the profession next month.
Sumandeep talked to girls from Years 9 and above about her route to dental school, having attended EHS from 2001-2015. After this, she went to Leeds University to study dentistry.
We heard about Sumandeep’s reasons for choosing dentistry:
- It is a job that helps you work in a hands-on role in the community.
- She has a keen eye for aesthetics and loves the combination of science and art.
- Mostly she enjoys helping people and changing lives!
We heard about the different routes into dental school and how to get there even if you don’t initially get the grades you hoped for.
Sumandeep talked though the importance of the personal statement and what to include to help you stand out, and also the different clinical aptitude tests and interviews that applicants need to be prepared for.
We would like to thank Sumandeep for making the effort to come into school and talk to students about opportunities in dentistry. She certainly gave lots of inspiration and ideas to our students.
