This Week in Westbourne
25 November 2022
Everything has been black and white in Nursery this week as the activities have been focused on the two colours. Many of the activities have helped to develop fine motor skills which are most important. The girls have threaded black mittens with wool and traced patterns with white, glittery glue. They have enjoyed mixing black and white to form grey and creating alternate colour patterns.
Kindergarten girls have been busy learning the letter sound ‘c’ this week. They have written the letter with the help of the ‘c’ crab and with exercises on the interactive white board. Carrots helped the girls to consider healthy vegetables and crocodile castanets enhanced music lessons. In Mathematics the girls completed a class vote of their favourite pets and started thinking about their Christmas cards and calendars.
Practical Maths activities help the girls to consolidate their understanding and this week in Reception girls have been using water play to demonstrate their understanding of 'one more' by continually adding a teddy into a jug to see when it sinks. This turned out to be a great discussion session as they also learnt about floating and sinking too.
Continuing on with the term’s topic of 'Healthy Eating', girls made sandwiches using fillings such as, cheese, cucumber and jam. The story of Spot’s First Picnic added to the enjoyment of the girls’ indoor picnic.
The 'Phonics Pebbles' have been a fun way of learning to write words independently in Literacy lessons as well as recapping digraphs. Definitely a good way of encouraging authors of the future.
