In addition to exploring the theme of recycling in our Discovery Den this week, girls in all year groups have been busy extending their learning.

The activities in Nursery this week have been centred on the ‘Hey Diddle Diddle’ nursery rhyme.

They have included laying the table correctly, ‘jumping over the moon’ in PE, hand printing a collage and identifying different emotions from cards and by making faces in the mirror.  A highlight was a visit from Mr Robson who played the piano for everyone to sing Hey Diddle Diddle.

Specific areas of learning involved the number 3 in Mathematics. The girls made a collage, completed some rainbow writing and sorted objects into groups of three.  They also traced dots to practise writing their own names.

In Kindergarten the focus of the week was the letter sound ‘o’ which provided a wealth of learning activities.  They thought about the story ‘Owl Babies’, working on pencil control to develop fine motor skills as well as talking about the story.  They considered the characters and how they were feeling, the setting of the story and recapped what happened.

Their creativity was expressed through producing an owl scene, using pompoms to paint the owls and enjoying lots of owl themed play in the classroom! They made octopuses in the shape of the letter o before giving them tentacles and the home corner was changed into an ‘emergency station’, with ‘officers’ being a focus.  The girls enjoying dressing up and pretending to be fire fighters and police officers.

Mathematics skills were also further developed as they worked on division, dividing the mice equally between the owls and they used a mathematical dice game to put the o shaped Olaf back together.  Opposites and odd one out also featured in the mathematics sessions!

Reception girls have had a 'Scarecrow' filled week!  First, they listened to the story of Scarecrow's Secret by Heather Amery and Stephen Cartwright and made their own scarecrows, complete with straw and patches!

Afterwards, they wrote their own description of what their scarecrow looked like in Creative Writing. The highlight of the week was when they made full sized scarecrows in our Outdoor session.  One even wore an EHS jumper!
