In the Discovery Den this week the topic for the girls to study has been pandas. This has fitted well with Mrs Hartley’s Half Hour work on the David Walliams’ book, ‘Marmalade’. This has covered work in PSED on how it is okay to be different and to be ourselves. The girls have learnt some collective nouns and that a group of pandas is called an ‘embarrassment’.

In Nursery, some of the girls’ activities have been based on the Wee Willie Winkie Rhyme. During the week, they have thought about night time, bedtime and darkness by shutting the quiet room door and using torches. They talked about the importance of having a good bedtime routine and played the sleeping lions game. Another activity to build physical skills was walking up and down the stairs like in the rhyme.  The focus was on holding the rail and using one foot on each step. To further the night time theme the girls made star shaped biscuits and decorated them with sprinkles. In their Mathematics lessons, they concentrated on the number 7 this week. They counted groups of objects and practised writing and colouring the number.

The letter sound in Kindergarten has been ‘e’. The girls have worked on the formation of the letter and have studied eggs in their various forms. They have considered animals that lay eggs, have decorated eggs and will be hatching their very own eggs, which will link with their theme on Easter and spring. They have read Elmer stories and completed related work including addition, patterns, and why it is good that we are all unique and different.

Reception girls had the opportunity of learning to play tennis with a coach from the Priory Club on Tuesday. They perfected their running and throwing skills in Prep playground.  In the classroom, they continued to learn their French colours in the Language lessons and have coloured in beautiful rainbows showing French words for colours of the rainbow. Girls started a new topic in Number work. They learnt the names of some of the basic 3D shapes and explored the properties of these shapes by building bridges and rockets. They also tested if they could roll or not!

On Wednesday, girls performed their 'Mother's Day Assembly' to visiting parents with pride. One of the songs they sang was, "Reach for the Stars" and afterwards, they thanked their mothers for all they do for them by giving them a hand sewn flower card along with a bunch of daffodils.
