Year 5 Digestion Detectives
19 March 2021
As part of their work on the Human Body, Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed enacting the main processes involved in digestion.
After reviewing their home learning on the digestive system, they discovered the length of their intestines by stretching the 'to scale' model across the room. They discovered the small intestine is not so small!
Then the messy part began: they took a typical breakfast, cut it with incisors and mashed it with molars in the mouth before adding enzymes and acid in the stomach.
In the next part of the process, the girls pretended to be villi absorbing nutrients in the small intestine.
The grand finale was allowing the finished product to land in the 'toilet' with a splash! There was laughter throughout and much productive learning.
